Bringing home the Match Ball...

Four goals scored and none conceded? I know it was against Burnely but come on, you have to be pretty fuckin’ happy with that performance. There were some early nerves, sure, but after the first goal there was no doubt we were on easy street. Claret and Blue nothing, that was all Red….

Can we talk about Yossi Benayoun for a minute here? What a fuckin’ champ that boy is. Likely jetlagged to the hilt from midweek International duty and he runs rampant. Hat tricks are always special occasions regardless of opposition and this one was no less than spectacular. This boy is a model professional and someone all current Liverpool players can look to as an example. A bit part squad player when he joined and now Rafa’s secret weapon. The boy can’t stop scoring. 10 goals in the his last 17 games for the club and counting. His demolition of Burnley only strengthens his case for a first team spot and proves that if you shut your trap and take your chances, good things will come your way. Did you hear that Babel?  Take your headphones off and pull up your pants.

After the loss to Aston Villa, it’s nice to get back to winning ways at Anfield. Unbeaten streaks have to start somewhere, right? I’d be happy to see this win as some sort of revival or proof that we are back to the team of last year1 but I’m not blind. I may have my Red spectacles on after a win that empathetic but there are still glaring holes that need to be addressed. A win is a win and I’ll enjoy it but we’ll see how we fare against Debreceni in our midweek Champions League fixture before taking a trip to Upton Park to face the Happy Hammers. Our fixture list is congested over the next few weeks with both midweek and weekend games. If the squad is going to show their quality, now’s the time to do it.

On a special note, yesterdays win was enjoyed by none other than Michael Shields who was released from prison on his erroneous charges earlier in the week. I doubt I need to give any background on the case2 but I will say it’s nice to see the Justice System working things out, if not quickly then finally. Good on ya Mike.
